New Year is around the corner again, and we are probably happy about it. How can we have a good start without getting anxious or overwhelmed? It’s possible, let’s reconsider our pre-conceived ideas and attitudes.

It is a great time to look backwards and evaluate all the achievements (and disappointments). If we can consider our past errors, we will be better equipped for the upcoming year. Have no regrets, just a serene approach and thorough analysis.
For the marketers and Social Media managers out there, consider investing in good applications and other tools as this will make your life a lot easier. Planning is a must to avoid stress and anxiety, and it’s not a good idea leaving things for the last minute.
In any case, this is the ideal moment to stop and re-evaluate our priorities: getting rid of unnecessary burdens and non-productive and uninspiring tasks is advisable.
NEW YEAR THINGS TO DO
Maybe it’s time to change the routine without running into excesses. Travelling or spending some time with our friends, family and pets can help us to regain our energy and enthusiasm.
WHY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS DON’T WORK
As we reach the end of the year, we feel tempted to elaborate long and detailed lists of resolutions, but does this really work? Most times it doesn’t, and we’ll see why:
• Lack of clarity in the goals: vague or unprecise objectives are of no use.
• Excessive pressure: putting too much effort can have a negative effect in the long run.
• Impatience: following the road to change is a marathon, not a sprint.
• Bad timing: this is a key factor, as we can be interested in change but not ready for it.
If we wish to overcome these common obstacles, this is what we must consider:
• A good foundation (remember S.M.A.R.T. goals).
• Long-term and short-term objectives must be differentiated.
• We must evaluate strategies and routines periodically.
• Anticipating obstacles and setbacks will prevent frustration.
• Positive visualisation is helpful.
• To celebrate all the achievements (even the small ones) is stimulating.
